Five in Japan is a practical family travel site for people planning Japan with children. We write from the perspective of a family of five living in Japan, with a focus on the details that usually decide whether a day feels easy or exhausting: pacing, transport, meals, packing and transitions between places.
Why we made Five in Japan
Many Japan itineraries are built around how many attractions can fit into a day. With young children, that is rarely the most useful way to plan. We would rather choose one main area, leave room for food and breaks, and make the route between stops simple.
This site is our attempt to turn that experience into practical guides another family can actually use.
What you will find here
- family-friendly Japan itineraries with realistic pacing
- Hokkaido and Sapporo guides shaped by our own family experience
- transport and day-trip comparisons
- packing and logistics tips for travelling with young children
- carefully selected bookable experiences when they genuinely make a trip easier
How we write
We separate firsthand experience from research. If we personally visited, used or tested something, we say so. If a guide is based on research and comparison, we do not present it as a personal review.
Some pages contain affiliate links. If you book through one of those links, Five in Japan may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Commercial links do not change the standard we use for recommendations.
